Guild Wars 3 announced: platforms, the 2027 beta and what it means for GW1 and GW2
First announced: 5 June 2026. Last reviewed: 24 October 2026.
ArenaNet has officially announced Guild Wars 3. The first announcement confirms a new game in the Guild Wars universe, with an initial beta planned for fall 2027. That beta window is not a release date.
What has been confirmed?
- Platforms: PC, including Steam, and PlayStation 5.
- Setting: ancient Orr, more than a thousand years before the events of the original Guild Wars.
- Your role: a Vaelwarden, with a spirit mount called a Seeker Vael.
- Movement: the announcement highlights riding, gliding and wall-running as part of exploring the world.
The official website offers a newsletter signup for a chance to participate in the first beta. Signing up does not guarantee access, and the announced beta timing should not be confused with a confirmed launch schedule.
What does this mean for Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2?
ArenaNet’s announcement says development will continue across Guild Wars Reforged, Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars 3. The GW3 reveal is therefore not an announcement that GW1 or GW2 is closing.
For players deciding where to spend their time now, the useful distinction is simple: GW1 and GW2 are playable today; GW3 is a future game with an announced beta window. Plan purchases and character goals around the game you actually play, rather than assuming progress or items will carry into GW3.
What is still unknown?
The cited announcement does not establish a launch date or confirm that GW1 or GW2 accounts, characters, items, currencies or purchases will transfer to GW3. We will update this briefing when ArenaNet publishes substantial new information.
