How to craft legendary weapons in Guild Wars 2
Start with the exact weapon, not a generic shopping list. Guild Wars 2 legendary weapons use different precursors and gifts. A recipe for Twilight is not a recipe for an Aurene weapon, and legendary armor or trinkets follow other systems.

Choose your weapon and generation
- Generation 1: examples include Twilight and Sunrise. The final recipe combines the relevant precursor, the weapon-specific gift, Gift of Mastery and Gift of Fortune.
- Generation 2: these weapons use Mystic Tribute and the appropriate mastery gift. Requirements differ within the generation; Astralaria, Chuka and Champawat, HOPE and Nevermore specifically use Gift of Maguuma Mastery.
- Generation 3: the Aurene weapon family uses a matching Dragon precursor, its Aurene weapon gift, Gift of Jade Mastery and Draconic Tribute. Plan for End of Dragons content.
Standalone legendary weapons also exist. Always check the named weapon's current recipe rather than forcing it into one of these three summaries.
Worked example: crafting Twilight
The final Mystic Forge combination for one Twilight is:
- 1 Dusk — the precursor greatsword.
- 1 Gift of Twilight.
- 1 Gift of Mastery.
- 1 Gift of Fortune.
These are the four final components, not the complete raw-material shopping list. Expand each gift before buying anything.
Break down the two shared gifts
Gift of Mastery: 1 Bloodstone Shard, 250 Obsidian Shards, 1 Gift of Exploration and 1 Gift of Battle.
Gift of Fortune: 77 Mystic Clovers, 250 Globs of Ectoplasm, 1 Gift of Magic and 1 Gift of Might. Gift of Magic and Gift of Might contain further materials.
Twilight's own gift has additional components, including profession-crafted gifts. Check its full ingredient tree and required crafting disciplines before starting. The four-component final forge step does not remove that earlier work.
Separate your shopping list from your play list
- Choose one target. Record the exact weapon name and recipe reference.
- Expand every gift. Copy each ingredient once into a checklist; do not count a gift and all its materials as separate purchases.
- Subtract what you own. Check material storage, inventory and completed gifts.
- Mark account-bound components. Put exploration, reward-track and other personal progression on a separate play list. Tradeable materials do not replace those steps.
- Check crafting access. Confirm recipes, disciplines, masteries and expansion requirements for that weapon.
- Compare current options. Check the in-game Trading Post where the weapon or material is tradeable. Existing progress can make your personal crafting cost very different from another player's.
For relevant supplies, browse GW2 crafting materials, including Powerful Blood and Crystalline Dust. Buy the tier and quantity in your recipe, not a similarly named lower-tier material.
Use the Forge only when the recipe is ready
Check the four named final components and quantities before combining them. If you are new to the interface, read our Mystic Forge guide first. Random equipment combinations are not a reliable substitute for a planned legendary recipe.
If you prefer to compare finished options, browse GW2 legendary weapons. Check the exact listing: a finished tradeable weapon, a material package and a completion service are different purchases.
