How to use the Mystic Forge in Guild Wars 2
The Mystic Forge combines four ingredients. It can create specific items from a known recipe, or produce a random result from eligible equipment combinations. Those are different uses: putting valuable items into four slots does not guarantee a valuable reward.

How to start
- Choose the result first. Open the exact recipe you want to make and record all four ingredient types and their quantities.
- Find the Forge. Lion's Arch has a Mystic Forge with Miyani nearby. Other access points exist, but Lion's Arch is a useful starting reference.
- Select the ingredients. Check the full item names and quantities in the four slots. Similar names, tiers or rarities are not interchangeable unless the recipe says so.
- Check, then forge. Submitted ingredients are consumed. Keep anything you want to retain out of the combination.
Unlike regular crafting disciplines, Forge recipes are not learned and stored as a normal in-game recipe list. Use a reliable recipe reference while preparing the ingredients.
A fixed recipe: Mystic Salvage Kit
For one Mystic Salvage Kit, combine:
- 3 Mystic Forge Stones
- 1 Fine Salvage Kit
- 1 Journeyman's Salvage Kit
- 1 Master's Salvage Kit
The input salvage kits must have their full uses remaining. The result has 250 uses. Check your existing kits first; a partly used input kit is not the same as a fresh one.
A material promotion example
To promote Potent Blood into Powerful Blood, use:
- 50 Vials of Potent Blood
- 1 Vial of Powerful Blood
- 5 Piles of Crystalline Dust
- 5 Philosopher's Stones
The listed output is 5–12 Vials of Powerful Blood. The starting Powerful Blood is consumed too, so distinguish the output from your net gain. This recipe does not mean 50 Potent Blood become 50 Powerful Blood.
Before promoting, compare the cost of every input with the current price of the output. Include the materials you already own: using them still uses something you could have kept. Variable output means a single lucky attempt is not a dependable profit estimate.
See GW2 Vials of Powerful Blood and Piles of Crystalline Dust for the exact material names, or browse GW2 crafting materials.
Fixed recipes and random equipment are different
A named recipe has a defined result, sometimes with a variable quantity. Combining eligible equipment can instead return a random item. Do not treat random combinations as a guaranteed route to a precursor, legendary weapon or profit.
For a legendary weapon, prepare its named precursor and gifts. Our legendary weapon crafting guide separates the main generations and shows the final Twilight combination.
